The 9th C of Employee EngagementPosted by Insightlink on 12/23/14 Credible Leaders Bring Out The Best In Us.In a recent Forbes article titled ‘Good Leaders are Invaluable to a Company. Bad Leaders will Destroy It’, Amy Rees Anderson explores the good, the bad and the ugly with respect to leadership. Anderson says that organizations maintain and grow their reputations when they strive to demonstrate high ethical standards and give their employees reasons to be proud of their jobs, their performance and their organizations. Credibility like this is built by good leadership, which is developed daily through regular and open communication. Good leaders make certain everyone understands the goals and vision of their organization and everyone feels they are an important part of the whole, where every job matters and everyone has input. Promotions are based on merit and competition is based on personal best and getting ahead. When leadership is credible, sincere and meaningful, the result is high morale, good employee retention and sustainable long term success. That seems logical enough. Anderson goes on to explain that conversely, the effects of poor leadership lead to an office run by the rumor mill, politics and gamesmanship. When employees are lead by people who aren’t credible, bad things happen; promotions are not based on integrity or talent, employees are taught to play dirty to get ahead, and tear each other down. Bad leadership causes low morale, high turnover and a decreased ability to have any sustainable success. That too makes sense. Therefore the conclusion is that if a company truly wants and expects to succeed, they cannot allow poor leaders to lead their organization. If you have doubts about the leadership in your own company, we can help you decide if an employee survey is the right tactic to explore issues that could be hurting your organization. Measuring the well being of your organization is our specialty because we are passionate about success for your organization, your employees and your customers.
