Are Your Employees Really Engaged?

Employee engagement is the key to the success of any company long-term.
Do your employees care about the work they do and your customers, or are they simply coming to work day after day, week after week, year after year and producing the minimal effort needed to guarantee that they will continue to receive a paycheck every two weeks?
Your company is only as valuable as your unhappiest employee on their worst day.
Think about it!
Unhappy employees are toxic.
They do not serve customers well, positively represent the brand, and they are a noose around the neck of employee morale.
Every company has one or two employees that people know are unhappy and show discontent at work. The problem is, most companies do nothing about it.
They do not take the time to understand why these people are unhappy or disengaged, and I will speak more about this in my next article on leadership.
They do not take the time to look at company policies and procedures that could be counterproductive to people being able to service clients effectively and therefore create frustration and eventual disengagement because people realize that things are not changing.
They do not look at company dynamics to see if this person would be better valued and of more value to the company doing something completely different.
Disengagement at work is rarely due to employees who have work to rule attitude for no reason. Their work to rule attitude is usually the symptom of frustration within the company because they have little say in how they do their job, or they feel that what they say or what they do does not matter to anyone.
It is up to the company and those who lead it to be questioning why there is high turnover, why there is high disengagement and why customers are not valuing the brand. Usually, the issue comes does to small things that, once rectified, enable people to feel better about themselves and have pride in the work that they do.
Employees want to believe that what they do matters and that their actions contribute to success. It is up to companies to enable them to feel this way, or you will lose them!
